Choosing The Right Exterior Options For Your Home

When it comes to picking out the exterior of your home, there are many options to choose from. We believe that different configurations look better on one plan versus another plan that may be a different style of a house; a ranch-style or two-story. Here at Emerald Pointe Realty & Construction in Monroe, NC we will help when you are choosing the right exterior options for your home.

Brick Veneer

The first main option is a complete brick veneer. There are multiple advantages to brick such as easy maintenance, durability, and it can sometimes increase the value of your home. Brick is a great choice considering it has proven to uphold the natural elements especially in this area of the country. Since brick is naturally colored, it will not change colors or fade throughout the years. Brick will not show wear and tear as much as other exterior options may, therefore you will not have to clean it as often. Brick helps with insulation, temperature control, and also helps to keep the noise out. Even though brick is slightly more expensive than other exterior choices, it holds its value considering all of the advantages it has which makes it a much more appealing option to buyers.

Vinyl Siding

The second option is vinyl siding. This is just as common as brick in Union County, NC. One reason people like vinyl is because of the look it gives off. With brick, you are semi-limited to what colors you can choose. With vinyl, you can pretty much get any color you’d like from green to blue to yellow. Unlike brick, most vinyl comes with some kind of manufactures warranty, therefore, you won’t have to worry about replacement cost, as long as it’s covered. It is not indestructible, it can crack or manage to break open if it is hit with strong force where brick may hold up a lot longer.

Other Options

The other two options that people use are Hardie board, also known as cement board, or LP Smart Side. These are great options as far as durability, however, they are way more maintenance than brick or vinyl, typically they are more expensive to install and upkeep with. The advantage of these is that they look like real wood without actually having to use wood. They are painted to be sealed and protected, so you can paint them whatever color you’d like, but this will need to be redone every few years.

Brick and vinyl are the main two options that we see people using in Union County, NC. Aside from doing brick or vinyl, there are other detailed options that you can do to make your curb appeal that much better! The first one is my personal favorite, which is board and batten. There are a few ways to achieve this look; either using real wood board and batten strips or you can use the vinyl version which is no maintenance. The second is a cedar shake, which is a vinyl option that comes in multiple different colors.

No matter what option you choose, it’s always best to consult with a designer like the one we have here at Emerald Pointe Realty & Construction to get the most up to date market needs or design trends. Combining some of the above options can give you the most beautiful exterior, but they can be tricky to put together just perfectly!
